Management - Overview

The Masters of Management (MMgt) programme was created to develop managerial skills among those seeking to begin or launch their career in management. The MMgt is essentially an advanced specialist degree. The emphasis is on providing the latest know-how in management. Students are trained to think critically in analyzing business issues. The range of skills developed in this programme includes the analytical, interpersonal and behavioral skills needed for managers. The MMgt programme can be taken as a full-time or part-time study.

Management Structure - Part Time

Course structure

The programme comprises 7 semesters spanning 28 months to be covered on a part-time basis. Each semester will be 12 weeks long and there will be 3 such semesters in a calendar year. Courses will be conducted on weekday evenings (6.30 p.m. – 10.15 p.m.).

Each course will have a 3 hours and 45 minutes (including breaks) lecture each week. Exams will be conducted in between semesters and will be followed by inter semester breaks. Students are required to complete 13 core courses. In fourth semester, they can decide either to complete a dissertation (3 credit hours) or to take 1 elective course in lieu of the dissertation. The dissertation will be in the area of management, and will be supervised by a member of the teaching faculty. Students will be expected to submit a short written proposal of their intended research topic towards the end of the fourth semester. The final dissertation will be due for submission at the end of the final semester or a subsequent date as determined by the Project Paper Committee.

Admission Requirements

1. A good bachelor’s degree from IIUM or any other institutions of higher learning approved by the University Senate. A professional qualification which is certified equivalent to a degree under Malaysian laws and approved by the University Senate can also be considered.

2. Working experience in a management or executive position would be an advantage.

3. Proficiency in English language (where necessary candidates may be required to sit for an English language proficiency test).
